5 things to do in North London
As one of the largest cities in the world, London is an exciting metropolis to explore. The multicultural melting pot is home to some of the best theatre, history and culinary experiences on the globe. The problem is, there is just too much to see and do! If you want to see the best of London – not just follow the tourist trail – then it’s best to split the city up into North, South, East and West. Take a look at these quirky experiences in North London which are reserved for locals in the know.
Toff’s, Muswell Hill
When in London you have to try Britain’s favourite meal fish and chips – so get down to North London’s finest chip shop. Toff’s Fish Restaurant has received worldwide acclaim, voted Best Fish and Chips in the UK and featured in all good food guides. If that’s not enough to tempt you through the door, the décor features Iron Maiden memorabilia!
North London Vintage Market
While Camden Market is obviously the largest in town, it can get pretty packed with tourists. If you love vintage wares then check out the North London Vintage Market in Crouch End. It has a rotating selection of vendors but it’s not on every single week, so keep up with the social media accounts for details of the next market event.
Word on the Water, Regent’s Canal
A floating bookshop is good enough for us, but the London Book Barge is so much more. This converted 1920’s barge invites you inside to look around and get lost in the world of literature next to an open fire and a friendly dog. It even hosts live jazz performances every now and again too. This is definitely worth a visit when you’re in North London.
Hampstead Heath Ponds
Open water swimming anyone? The ponds at Hampstead Heath are open all year round, so don’t let the weather put you off! Grab your swimming gear and enjoy the natural surroundings while burning some calories in the chilly water.
Holly Bush, Hampstead
If you want to live like a local then you have to drink like a local, and this historic pub is as British as it gets. Its antique interior, roaring fire and fantastic food makes it the perfect stop off on a day of exploring the city.
