Where is Fulham located?
Fulham sits within the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in West London, just under 4 miles west of Charing Cross. It sits on the north bank of the River Thames and is nestled between Chelsea and Putney, close to both Sloane Square and Kensington. Not only is it a nice area itself, it’s surrounded by lovely neighbourhoods!
What’s the typical Homestay accommodation Here?
It’s expensive to buy or rent property in Fulham and this is primarily as a result of property size and type. There’s few new-builds here, but many Victorian and Edwardian townhouses – some split into flats, but some maintained as single-family homes. You’ll find some blocks of apartments near Fulham Broadway station and the odd period property in this area, too.
How safe is it?
Fulham is one of the safest districts in London, although is primarily residential so you may find it quieter than elsewhere in the city. Of course, as with any big city, the occasional criminal incident does happen here, but these tend to focus in on the extremely wealthy residents and properties; which are often very well protected by security services anyway. The amount of transport options available throughout the district allows you to take public and private transport around rather than walking alone for your peace of mind if you do feel uncomfortable.
What type of Host Families live Here?
The residents of Fulham are fairly well-off, and the price of property dictates that those who live here earn more than average. Lots of affluent families, professionals and young professionals with large disposable incomes live in the neighbourhood, but you’ll find they travel out to neighbouring areas often to attend events, party and eat and drink.
Notable residents include Linford Christie, the rapper Example, Daniel Radcliffe and Janet Street-Porter. British TV show ‘Made in Chelsea’ is filmed often in Fulham and several of the reality stars live in the area.
What transport links does Fulham offer?
It may seem like a long way west, but Fulham is only four miles out of central London. Fulham Underground station as well as nearby Parsons Green, Putney Bridge and Fulham Broadway are all on the District line. If you’d prefer Overground travel, this is served from the nearby Imperial Wharf station.
Four main bus routes run through the area (the 14, 22, 211 and 414), connecting it with Knightsbridge, Chelsea, Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus and Waterloo. There are several Santander Cycle hubs, mainly found around tube and rail stations.
What is there to do Here?
Fulham is mainly a residential area, and its proximity to the River Thames means that you won’t find many green spaces here. That said, there’s still plenty to do and see here – so spend some time exploring your surroundings and enjoy your stay.
Walk (or run!) along the Thames
The Thames River Walk runs from Putney to Richmond, following the route of the summer’s famous Oxford vs. Cambridge boat race. It’s a picturesque walk and there’s lots of tourist attracts and sights to see along the way, too; including Fulham Palace and Craven Cottage. In the summer, you’ll find ice cream and refreshment sellers pitched up along the way to help keep you going.

Fulham Road is well known as one of the haunts of the ‘Sloaners’; the rich young professionals with expensive tastes. It runs parallel to the equally popular Kings Road and is full of designer clothing stores, lavish interior designers and vintage boutiques. It may not be the place to snap up a sales bargain, but it makes for a great afternoon of day-dreaming how to best spend your lottery winnings!

Once enclosed entirely by a moat, Fulham Palace was the summer retreat of the Bishops of London but is now owned and managed by the Fulham Trust. Admission is free to both the grounds and the gardens five days a week and is worth touring around… and stopping for a cream tea.
