A north east suburb with an IG2 postcode, this neighbourhood is situated 9.5 miles north east of Charing Cross. It sits in the London borough of Redbridge, just south of Barkingside. Newbury Park is to the east of Gants Hill, Cranbrook to the south and Redbridge to the west.

Gants Hill is mainly residential with some commercial outlets and a green space, Valentines Park. There’s a mix here of newer and older properties spanning terraced and semi-detached houses, flats and apartments, and some larger detached houses. You won’t tend to find many Victorian and Georgian homes here though; instead most of the older properties were built in the 1920s.
This mix of old and new means that you’ll normally find something for sale or to rent on the property market despite the fact that people who live here tend to stay.

Gants Hill is a broadly safe area for travellers and solo walkers due to its heavily residential nature. It is slightly more affluent than the neighbourhoods around it, so sometimes seems a bit of a ‘posh’ area compared to others nearby.
You should have no issues here on your own although you may find quiet, sleepy streets at night and in the evenings. There’s a night bus service here but also plenty of taxis should you not feel comfortable walking alone late.

What transport links does Gants Hill offer?
Gants Hill London Underground station is on the central line for easy and fast connections into the city centre. Just south of the district you’ll find Ilford mainline railway station. Nine different London bus routes run through Gants Hill from a variety of operators. The N8 Night Bus runs all the way from Hainault to Holles Street, covering a great deal of ground in between.
If you prefer to drive, there’s plenty of roads in and out of the area, including a newly built section of the A406. You’ll also find convenient and frequent servicing by minicabs and traditional London Black Cabs to Gants Hill.
What is there to do in Gants Hill?
Whilst Gants Hill is mainly a residential area, there are plenty of local amenities that pack a punch. Many don’t leave the area for the greater city unless it’s for work.

There’s even a café for you to relax with a coffee and cake after your explorations!
